Rsync two factor authentication
Research IT require multiple factors (both SSH key & password) for login to rsync.tchpc.tcd.ie
from the internet.
You will be able to login to rsync
from the College network, including VPN, with either an SSH key or your Research IT password. I.e., there will be no need for two-factor authentication from the College networks. Two-factor authentication only applies when trying to login to rsync
from the internet.
This does not apply to any other Research IT hosted systems.
Authentication factors
Both of the following will be required to login to rsync
from the internet:
- An SSH key pair
- The Research IT password for your account
Instructions
An SSH public key must be added to your account on rsync
if you want to login to it from the internet.
If you do not have an SSH key pair generated for your rsync
login please see our generating SSH Keys for logging in instructions for how to create one.
To login with an SSH key pair please use the relevant instructions:
Locked out
For lost Research IT passwords please email ops@tchpc.tcd.ie from the email address registered for your Research IT account requesting a password reset.
You can add a ssh key to your rsync
account as per these instructions from a computer connected to the College network, including VPN.
If you cannot access the College network but need to add a ssh key to your rsync
account please send your public ssh key to
ops@tchpc.tcd.ie, (do not send your private key), from the @tcd.ie
email address registered with your Research IT account, and we will add it for you.
Users who don't have an @tcd.ie
email address and need us to add an SSH key should email ops@tchpc.tcd.ie, we will have to liaise with your collaborator in Trinity to confirm your identity.
