Research IT will be running two in-person training courses during March reading week 2023.

  1. Introduction to Research IT Systems - 6th March 2023
  2. Introduction to Bash Shell Scripting - 7th to 8th March 2023

Introduction to Research IT Systems - 6th March 2023

Research IT will be running an in person “Introduction to Research IT Systems” training course. The course is 1 half day, 10am to 12:30pm, on Monday 6th March and will be held in the MSc in HPC Lab, room 2.12 in the Lloyd Building.

Training Description:

This half-day course is suitable for students and researchers who are new to Trinity, and have little experience with HPC cluster resource management software and batch queueing systems, such as Slurm.

Among the topics covered will be:

Training prerequisites: Attendance at this course is required before making use of Research IT systems.

No previous experience is assumed.

How to book: Please use the training booking form

Cancellation policy: Research IT reserve the right to charge a €100 cancellation fee in circumstances where an attendee books a place on a course that is over subscribed and does not attend without providing sufficient cancellation notice to allow Research IT to offer the place to wait listed attendees. Places are not guaranteed without a cost code being supplied, your PI or the finance or administrative person in your area should be able to supply the necessary cost code.

Introduction to Bash Shell Scripting - 7th to 8th March 2023

Research IT will be running an in person “Introduction to Bash Shell Scripting” training course. The course is 2 half days, 10am to 1pm, on Tuesday 7th - Wednesday 8th March and will be held in the MSc in HPC Lab, room 2.12 in the Lloyd Building.

Training Description:

This course is suitable for students and researchers who have some experience with the Linux command-line shell, but would like to get more out of it and use it more efficiently.

Among the topics covered will be:

Training prerequisites: This course assumes some experience with using the Linux command-line, such as having attended our “Introduction to Linux” course. For example attendees should be comfortable with commands such as ls, cd, rm, mkdir, rmdir; and a text editor such as vim or gedit.

A basic knowledge of programming concepts such as loops and conditionals would be helpful but not essential.
